Being aware of the important role of 4G LTE in connecting the world, in late 2016, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) licensed four telecommunication carriers, including Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone and Gmobile, to establish the network and provide 4G LTE-Advanced public land mobile telecommunication services.
VNPT VinaPhone has officially become the first mobile network provider in Vietnam to launch 4G services after receiving a license from MIC. VinaPhone has chosen the southern resort island of Phu Quoc to launch its 4G network in 2016. In 2017, VinaPhone has installed more than 24,000 2G, 3G and 4G BTS. The total includes 15,000 4G base stations, providing coverage to parts of all provinces, while 3G services are available to over 99% of the country.
According to the latest report from MIC’s Telecom Department, in all technical parameters for 3G/4G, VinaPhone has exceeded standards set by the ministry.
For instance, VinaPhone achieved successful internet access of 99.93 per cent against a requirement of over 90 per cent, readiness of network of 99.72 per cent against a requirement of 95 per cent and delay time for internet access of 1.85 seconds against a requirement of under 10 seconds.
